York , U.S.A.
Hyde Park, located in the southeastern corner of New York State, is one of
the most popular attractions in the Hudson Valley, boasting a number of historic
sites including the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The city's position on the
scenic Hudson River attracted a number of wealthy men in the 19th and early
20th centuries whose legacy lives on in the grandiose mansions they left behind.
Many of the historic sites are open to visitors, including the mansion belonging
to the Vanderbilts, a family of affluent industrialists. Guided tours of Hyde
Park's historic townsite and Roosevelt's hilltop retreat are available, complete
with stories about the 32nd president's life. Hyde Park is also the home of
the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, which houses exhibits
and documents from his time in office. Hyde Park's Trail, an ideal way to explore
the area's attractions and appreciate the scenery, spans nearly nine miles and
connects to several parks and historic sites.
